Playing with complexity

Management and Organisation of Large Infrastructure Projects, by Marcel Hertogh and Eddy Westerveld, dissertation, 2010.

The realisation of large infrastructure projects is a complex task, which often leads to exceedance of costs, delays and discontent by stakeholders. The dissertation ‘Playing with complexity’ describes the establishment of six large infrastructure projects: the Betuweroute, HSL-Zuid, Gotthard Tunnel, Lötschberg Tunnel, Rijksweg 73-Zuid en West Coast Mainline.

It gives an insight in the complexity of large infrastructural projects: a practical and theoretical approach. Beside that the authors describe different management strategies. Based on their research they advise ‘dynamic management’.
