Metro Riyadh

Metro Riyad Design Joint Venture Strukton Triple Bridge

FAST, an international consortium – in which Strukton is a participant, amongst others – is currently realising three new metro lines in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyad.

Riyad is a large and rapidly expanding city. It is currently inhabited by 5.7 million citizens, but forecasts indicate the number of citizens will have reached approximately 8.3 million by 2030. The metro will offer a solution for the daily traffic problems. Currently, of the 7.4 million daily commuting movements, only two percent make use of public transport.

Large numbers

For the construction of the metro network 600,000 tons of steel will be needed – 80 times the amount used for the Eiffeltower – and 4,3 million cubic meters of concrete. A total of at least 30,000 people will work on this project. If everything goes according to plan, the network shall become active in 2018 or 2019.

Design Commission

To support the development of the metro project, a Design Joint Venture has been established. Moreover, a design commission was appointed to give advice to the project managers. Hans Moll, partner of Triple Bridge, was the chairman of this commission.
